Accident Leads to DUI Charges for Fargo Woman
Fargo, ND- A Fargo woman has been charged with suspicion of DUI after causing a traffic accident that left her with serious, potentially, life-threatening injuries.
The accident occurred on just after midnight on April 13th on Interstate 29 in Fargo, according to the Grand Forks Herald. Police say that a 30 year-old woman driving a 1999 Lexus rear-ended a Honda. The driver of the Honda, a 21-year-old woman, was not injured but the Lexus driver was seriously injured.
The alleged drunken woman was not wearing her seat-belt when the accident occurred.
Police charged the Lexus driver with suspicion of DUI. The Grand Forks Herald also found that she has three prior DUI charges dating back to 2007.
In the case of this accident, the driver, though she seriously injured herself, is fortunate that she didn’t hurt anyone else, otherwise her charges could have been much worse when her previous DUI charges are taken into consideration.
Last June, North Dakota lawmakers toughened the state’s DUI laws, extending the look-back period for repeat DUI offenders, increasing some charges to felonies, and changing the minimum penalties conviction.

North Dakota has some of more lenient DUI laws in the U.S., but that doesn’t mean a DUI conviction won’t spell trouble for the offender. When it comes to a DUI charge many people are unaware that even once they’ve served their sentence, they will continue to pay for their actions. That is especially true for repeat DUI offenders who sometimes face losing their license indefinitely and are left with a criminal record for employers and others to see.
