Costa Mesa, CA- An Anaheim man has been arrested on DUI charges after causing two separate accidents late Saturday which left one woman dead.
Costa Mesa police suspect Brandon Anthony Alvarez, 22, of being intoxicated when he struck two vehicles in separate accidents Saturday night after 10 p.m.
According to reports, Alvarez was driving a pickup truck when he rear-ended a motorist stopped at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Date Place. Fortunately that motorist was not injured but Alvarez fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
The motorist from the first accident pulled over and notified police immediately.
Shortly after the first accident, Alvarez, who was driving northbound on Harbor Boulevard, ran a red-light and sideswiped a Kia Optima. The driver of the Kia, Marcela Pacheco Garciaguirre, 23, was killed instantly and one of her male passengers was critically injured, KTLA reported.
When police arrived on the scene they found beer cans scattered around the accident scene, and placed Alvarez under arrests for suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. He has since been released on bond.
