New London, CT- A 21-year-old Connecticut man has been charged with driving under the influence after he caused a wrong-way crash on Route 34 in Monroe.
Police say that the young man was driving Honda Civic along Route 34, crossing over into oncoming traffic several times and forcing motorists to make evasive maneuvers. The Connecticut Post reports that the man then pulled into the wrong lane where he continued to drive until he struck a pickup truck head-on.
Police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the Honda. The young man refused medical treatment at the scene and was arrested, the CT Post reported. A breathalyzer test revealed that his BAC was .184, well over the .08 legal limit.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
