Drinking and driving is a serious issue across the country and has become the biggest threat to public safety in recent years. Therefore, strict measures have been put in place to curb the practice where offenders are dealt with severely.
There are also a number of nonprofit, non-government organizations such as MADD (mothers against drunk driving) that are rallying against the crime and attempt to spread awareness. Anybody that is charged with drinking and driving is not only legally punished but is also subjected to communal reprimand and frowned upon by society. The fact that they got behind the wheel after consuming alcoholic beverages speaks volumes about a person and their total disregard for the safety of other motorists and pedestrians.
A Dallas DWI attorney who seeks results
Even just a DWI accusation is sufficient to permanently tarnish the reputation and character of a person in both their professional and social circles. This is where John L. Corn comes into the picture who can be reached right here. He will take the pain you are feeling and deliver it right back to the criminal who made your life so miserable. We all depend on police officers to apprehend such inconsiderate offenders and someone like John L. Corn, a Dallas DWI attorney, will take it from there.
Sadly though, sometimes, the officers themselves are caught on the wrong side of the law, like in the case of Dallas Police Senior Corporal Jonathan Sharkey, as reported by CBS.
Sharkey, who has been working in the narcotics section of the police wing since 2006, was taken into custody for suspected drunken driving by the Wylie Police Department. Currently, the 32 year old police officer has been placed under an indefinite administrative leave pending investigation results. His mugshots, which were uploaded onto a news service website, were taken down by the Dallas Police Department since Sharkey was involved in undercover work and it would jeopardize his identity.
Repeat DUI offender sentenced to 50 years in prison
Stewart Richardson has finally paid the price for his string of drink and drive offenses that ended only when he took the life of 8 year old Abdallah Khader. The accident happened six years ago in 2009, but the boy remained alive (in a vegetative state) until earlier this year when he eventually succumbed to the injuries, as reported by wfaa.com. Richardson’s pickup hit Loubna Elharazin, Khader’s mother’s car, after he ran a red light on South Cooper Street. The impact crushed the back of the sedan, which resulted in Abdallah’s death.
The mother of the boy was present in the courtroom to testify against Richardson. She told Richardson it was the last time she would address him, saying she had forgiven him but stood for justice. Richardson was handed a 50 year prison sentence minus the time he had already served. Richardson’s Dallas DWI attorney refused to comment.

DWI laws – Texas
Driving under the influence is a punishable crime in Texas. Technically, driving with a BAC (blood alcohol content) over 0.08% is considered driving under the influence. Penalties include various punishments depending on a number of factors such as the severity of the DWI/DUI, whether anyone was injured or died as a result of the DUI, whether the offender has prior DUI convictions, and other related issues. However, arresting officers are human beings too and sometimes make mistakes and wrongfully charge motorists with DUI.
This could be due to incorrectly conducted field sobriety tests, or because of breathalyzers that have not been properly calibrated etc., therefore it is very important for those charged with a DUI to hire an experienced and aggressive Dallas DWI attorney and get started working on their defense to prove their innocence and beat the case against them.
