Las Vegas, NV- Police allege that a driver was drunk when he caused a five-vehicle accident that left two people dead in Las Vegas Sunday night.
Nevada State Police say that the accident occurred before 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Lamb Boulevard near Interstate 15. The Las Vegas Sun reports that 26-year-old Arian Galindo plowed through a red light, slamming into five cars waiting at the intersection.
Two people were killed in the collision. Galindo and a mother and daughter were also injured in the crash and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, the Las Vegas Sun reported.
Witnesses told police Galindo was traveling nearly 100 mph when the accident occurred. He has been arrested and charged with DUI.
There is no excuse for driving drunk and this accident is a prime example of the consequences such reckless behavior can have—in this case two people are dead. The fact that it is inexcusable, however, doesn’t mean that a person facing a DUI charge stemming from a serious crash doesn’t deserve the right to a defense. And it is important for anyone facing a DUI charge, especially if it involves and accident, to retain and DUI defense attorney immediately.
A simple DUI arrest, one that doesn’t involve an accident, carries tough penalties on its own, which include minimum of 2 days in jail up to six months, 90-day suspension driver’s license and the possibility of being required to install an ignition interlock device. But a person who causes a DUI accident will be facing serious jail time, anywhere between 2 years to 20 years, on top of the many other consequences a conviction carries.
