Kansas City Royals Pitcher Arrested on DUI Charges
Kansas City, MO – The pitcher for the Kansas City Royals was recently arrested on DUI charges after passing out behind the wheel at a Burger Kind drive-thru.
According to the Daily Mail, Royals pitcher Danny Duffy was charged with a DUI shortly after his team lost to the Cleveland Indians. He was reportedly on his way to an MRI exam when he stopped at a Burger King on 137th Street and Metcalf Avenue. Once there, two employees at the fast food restaurant, Raquel Wesson and Zaria Craig, recorded a video of Duffy passed out behind the wheel of his black Cadillac Escalade.
The two Burger King employees recall that Duffy’s car was still on, with his foot on the brake – and still in drive. They initially did not recognize the Royals pitcher until a stranger pointed out who he was.

While Craig and Wesson initially opened the door of Duffy’s vehicle in order to get him out and lay him flat on the ground, but to no avail. Wesson then recalls that Duffy “kept repeating that he was fine and that he didn’t need to call the police or anything. That he could drive.” She also says he looked like he was scared and had bloodshot eyes.
Wesson tells the Daily Mail that Duffy then tried to drive away, but had to stop because he dropped his credit card. Luckily she had already called the police, who arrived just as she was handing him his card.
Dayton Moore, general manager for the Kansas City Royals, responded to the news of the DUI arrest by saying, “Danny has always been accountable as a member of this organization and we expect the same accountability from him as this process moves forward.”
Major League Baseball rules dictate that any play who is charged with DUI can either be punished by a team or by the league, but not by both. They can also be recommended to receive volunteer alcohol treatment.
Moore reassures The Kansas City Star that “there’s obviously consequences for actions.” Duffy’s first court appearance for his Kansas City DUI charge is scheduled for 1 p.m. on September 19th.
According to DMV.org, some of the potential consequences for a first-offense DUI in Kansas City include:
