Knoxville, TN- A Knoxville school bus driver is facing several charges including DUI after he slammed into an entrance gate at Safety City with 26 students on board.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that police arrested 78-year-old Hollis Walker on Monday, March 14 and charged him with DUI, reckless endangerment, and simple possession. According to the paper, Hollis was transporting students from Green Magnet Academy to Safety City when he lost control of the bus and ran over a small area grass before running into a fence then the entrance gate.
Fortunately, none of the children were injured, though it was believed Hollis suffered a medical event. That turned out not to be the case and police suspect Hollis was impaired.
During their investigation, police found several prescription pills on Hollis. The Knoxville News Journal reports that Hollis was in possession of a prescription bottle of Klonopin, which didn’t belong to him and was nearly two dozen pills short. The prescription was filled the morning before the crash.
Mayes Bus Lines took Hollis off of the eligible driver list temporarily and said if he is convicted of the charges, he will be taken off of the list permanently.
