Tangipahoa, LA- Drunken driving costs U.S. citizens $60 billion a year and leads to thousands of traffic accidents, so naturally states have been working to toughen up drunk driving laws. One of those states is Louisiana who ranks in the top third of states with the strongest DWI laws according to new analysis.

Wallethub looked at minimum jail times, costs of fines, whether and offender is sentence to an alcohol or drug treatment program and how long a driver loses their license.

While Louisiana was the strictest state for DWI offenders—Arizona takes that prize—the state still ranks in top third of states with severe DWI/DUI penalties.  The state came in on the list at 14.
