A grand jury in New Mexico has indicted a man accused in a DWI crash that recently killed another driver. Dylan Loretto is accused of crossing over the center lane of Highway 550 due to impairment, resulting in a fatal head-on collision with a Subaru.
The Subaru’s driver, Cody Muchmore, died on the scene. Muchmore’s girlfriend, Elizebath Bailey, was in the passenger seat and survived but suffered severe injuries. Loretto was indicted on charges of vehicular homicide for Muchmore’s death and great bodily harm by vehicle for Bailey’s injuries.
Sole Survivor Improving
The young New Mexico couple were on their way to begin a new life together when the wrong-way driver hit them. Bailey, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the crash, has suffered immense trauma. She is damaged both physically from her injuries and emotionally from the pain of losing her loving boyfriend.
“They were on their way to a realtor’s office so they could sell his house because they were moving in together,” said McKenzie Bailey, Elizabeth’s sister.
New Mexico State Police say the crash happened at 8:00 a.m. on November 14th, 2021, on Highway 550.
“They explained to her that Cody had passed when they got on the scene. She had to be sedated because she was so upset,” said McKenzie Bailey.
Mackenzie Bailey said her sister has already undergone a couple of surgeries because of the extensive injuries she suffered from the crash. Bailey is doing better and improving each day, but it is unclear at this time what the long-term effects of her injuries will be.
