Billy Unger (second left) Arrested for DUI
Orange County, CA- What is it with Disney stars? They’re supposed to be squeaky clean kids, but some of them are anything but, racking up drug charges and DUIs. This past Saturday yet another Disney star will learn first-hand how frustrating it is to deal with a DUI charge.
Late last Saturday night, Billy Unger star of Disney’s “Lab Rats” was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. The 18 year-old was winding his way down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu when he was stopped for speeding, TMZ reported.
Unger was barely over the legal limit, but California, like many states, has zero tolerance policies towards underage drinking so any alcohol in an under-21’s system is grounds to charge them with a DUI.
It’s Unger’s first offense but the penalties can still be harsh, a judge may require the offender spend four to ten days in jail, pay fines up to $1,000 and suspension of their driver’s license. That’s just for the first offense so it’s worth for the person facing these charges to enlist the services of an Orange County DUI attorney.
Unger now gets to join the ranks of other fallen child stars who get themselves entangled in drugs and drinking. That extensive list includes Shia LaBeouf, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Britney Spears and Zac Efron, some of whom have been arrested from driving under the influence. How far Unger falls depends of whether he actually learns a lesson from his DUI charge.
In 2008, “Transformers” star Shia LaBoeuf, who was arrested over the weekend for disrupting a Broadway Show, was nabbed for driving under the influence after causing a serious traffic accident. LBoeuf has obviously struggled with substance abuse and other mental health issues and after this weekend’s incident decided to check himself into rehab.
Two years ago, Amanda Bynes hit a cop in Los Angeles and was charged with DUI; she recently negotiated a plea bargain and managed to avoid jail. Just this week, a New York judge dismissed marijuana possession charges against the troubled actress.
The most infamous disgraced Disney star however is Lindsay Lohan, who has had two DUI arrests, charges for drug possession, and theft. Lohan had a lot of legal troubles between 2007 and 2012, but has since cleaned up her act, showing that anyone can be redeemed if they try.
DUIs no matter how old the offender is a serious charge; a conviction can affect a person’s education, their career opportunities—unless they are celebrities—and their everyday lives. For many people, celebrity or not, the prospect of being unable to drive for months on end is daunting and they could lose their jobs.
DUI penalties are meant to discourage a person from repeating their offense but it doesn’t have to completely disrupt a person’s life. If you have been charged with an intoxicated driving charge, you must contact an Orange County DUI attorney immediately to launch a successful defense on your behalf.
